오래전부터 스마트팜이나 수경재배, 아쿠아포닉스 등 새로운 기술들에 대해 관심이 많이 있었고 이러한 산업화된 기술들이 농업에 필요하다는 생각을 해왔지만 최근에 다니던 회사를 관두고 농업인이 되고자 꿈꿔오던 것을 실현하려고 땅을 빌려서 작게 농사를 지으며 연습하고 있는데 직접 땅에서 농사지어보니 이러한 산업화된 기술들에 대한 회의감이 드는 면도 있다. 일단 경제적인 측면에서 생각했을때 이러한 기술들로 식량산업화를 이룰 수 있기 위해서는 거대한 자본을 가진 대기업들이 유리한 조건을 갖고 있고 개인이 이러한 기술을 구현한 설비들을 갖추기에는 한계가 있다. 결국 대기업에 의해 농업이 잠식되게 되고 고도로 기술발전시킨 재배시스템으로 효율성을 극대화하여 대량으로 저렴한 공급이 가능해지게 되면 기존 방법으로 농사를 지어오던 개인 농부들의 생계는 무너지게 될것이고 부의 편중이 심해질것이다. 그리고 물론 극도로 위생적인 생산과 균일한 재배가 가능한 점이 좋은 면도 있겠으나 한편으로는 인류가 면역력을 잃어가는 단초가 되지않을까하는 우려도 있고 식물들이 이런 공장에서만 생산되고 자연속에서는 품종들이 사라져버리게 되고 그런 상황에서 알수없는 질병이 발생해 멸종으로 이어지는 불행한 미래가 되는 것은 아닌가 하는 우려도 있고 기존의 농업은 단순한 식량생산의 개념만 있는게 아니라 감성적인 부분이 있는데 자연을 사랑하고 생명을 존중하고 생명의 신비에 감탄하게 되는 그런 감성들이 사라져 버리게 되는 것은 아닐까하는 우려도 가지게 됩니다. 그리고 지금은 이유를 알수없으나 땅에서 자라서 살아가는 식물들이 굳이 물에서 번성하지 않고 땅에서 번성해온 이유가 있지 않을까하는 생각도 해봅니다.
